NEW ORLEANS — The DOTD is dispatching teams throughout the metro area as well as the state to get roadways to a point where they can reopen major thoroughfares.

Elevated roadways have been the priority of the DOTD since they ice over more quickly than surface roads. Meanwhile, the state activated 450 members of the National Guard to help with the salting and deicing process.

One crew treating the eastbound lane of the twin spans began by deicing the surface. They scraped ice off the surface before then salting the concrete.

Traffic at the twin spans is being diverted to Hwy. 11
