HOUSTON -- Houston police homicide detectives are investigating the death of an infant who was found in a toilet on the city’s southwest side.

Officials said a maintenance worker was called to fix a clogged toilet in a first-floor unit at the Azalea Park apartment complex, located on the 5500 block of Bissonnet.

That’s when the worker discovered a human fetus.

Officials said at least three people live in the apartment. They were home at the time of the call. At least two of the residents were taken away for police questioning.

Investigators are unclear as to how long the fetus was in the toilet and if it once a live infant. Police are hoping an autopsy will answer those questions.

One neighbor said one of the female residents was recently pregnant.
