NEW ORLEANS -- Darren Sharper and his team of Los Angeles attorneys were in court Tuesday afternoon for a scheduled preliminary hearing, but only briefly.
The defense attorneys for the former Saints safety and NFL star asked for more time to study evidence in the case before going ahead with a preliminary hearing.
Judge Renee Korn granted the request and re-set the hearing for July 16. Remember, when Sharper was last in court a month ago, prosecutors handed the defense team 10 CDs of evidence related to the two Los Angeles rape charges.
The preliminary hearing will be critical for Sharper, allowing the judge to decide if prosecutors have enough evidence to go to trial.
In the meantime, Sharper will remain locked up as he has been since February. Rape charges also have been filed against sharper in Arizona and cases are pending in New Orleans and Las Vegas.
