COVINGTON, La. – A deputy escorting a funeral procession was struck by a pickup truck and tossed off of his motorcycle Friday afternoon in Covington.
Spokesman Jack West said the injuries to the deputy, identified as 44-year-old Tyren Bennett, were not immediately available, but weren’t thought to be life-threatening.
According to West, Bennett was escorting the procession on Collins Blvd. when the pickup truck, driven by 50-year-old Wendy Steimile, pulled onto Collins Blvd. and struck the officer’s bike.
Bennett went over the handlebars of the bike and landed approximately 10 yards away.
Steimile was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

I do agree some people should never drive, but this story is very misrepresented. For one, he was ahead of the funeral procession to close off an intersection ahead. And his motorcycle actually stuck the truck not the other way around. The driver of the truck is a professional driver and has never had a ticket until this incident, and she is very torn up about the whole situation. She feels very badly for Deputy Bennett and wishes him a speedy recovery. It was just one of those things that happen.
