NEW ORLEANS -- According to his attorney, Aaron Broussard's trial has been delayed to Oct. 1 while he undergoes treatment for prostate cancer.

The former Jefferson Parish president is facing a number of federal charges. He pleaded not guilty to theft, fraud and conspiracy charges on Feb 28.

His attorney, Robert Jenkins, confirmed the trial will be delayed because of his cancer treatment.

Eyewitness News anchor Eric Paulsen spoke with Broussard last month in an exclusive interview. Broussard said he had two options in treating his cancer, and that he is maintaining an upbeat attitude in the face of his cancer diagnosis.

"And again, the people that know me, they know my faith, they know my sense of humor. And those two things have really given me a very good, positive attitude, really for the last several years."
