NEW ORLEANS -- An escaped inmate is still at large and is reportedly in the New Orleans area, according to state officials.
Keana Barnes, 33, is serving a 25-year sentence for manslaughter. She escaped from the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women at about 1 a.m. on New Year's Day.
There have been "multiple" sightings of Barnes in the area, particularly in the Marrero area. You can also see a still from security video of Barnes above.
Investigators believe Barnes is receiving help in avoiding police.
Barnes is 5'4" tall, weighs 140 pounds and has dark brown eyes with short brown hair. She has the letter "K" tattooed on her left hand, a dragon tattoo on her back and two panther tattoos on her chest. Officials also believe she may have sustained a deep cut on her fingers from her escape.
State officials are offering $5,000 for information leading to her capture. Crimestoppers is also offering a $2500 reward for information in the case. Call them at 822-1111, or the LCIW Control Center at (225) 319-2300.
