HARVEY, La. -- One man was injured in an explosion on the West Bank at a dock along the Mississippi River.
The Kinder Morgan plant, a natural gas and petroleum facility, near 4th Street and Destrehan Avenue in Harvey. One person was injured, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
According to the JPSO, a truck was unloading a chemical at the plant into tank when something sparked an explosion. Sources say that chemical was ethanol.
"The incident occurred at an ethanol truck rack at the facility," said Emily Mir, a spokesperson for Kinder Morgan. "It has been reported that a truck driver suffered burns to his right shin and is stable condition. The company does not expect any customer impact. An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way."
The truck driver, according to the sheriff's office, was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center. The fire from the explosion was quickly extinguished.
Residents reported hearing as many as eight booms, and residents as far as Gretna reported feeling and hearing the explosion from the Harvey plant.
