METAIRIE, La. - Louisiana State Police urged drivers to exercise caution when out on the roads on Thursday due to foggy conditions.

At 5:30 a.m., convoys began on the southbound Causeway, and only the right lane is open with a reduced speed of 45 MPH on the northbound Causeway.

Across most of the 24-mile span, visibility is at 1/4 of a mile (roughly 700 feet.)

Throughout Wednesday and early Thursday morning, one lane was closed both southbound and northbound. Convoys were then employed southbound to assist with Thursday morning's rush to get traffic across as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Causeway Police said they expect the convoys to last most of the morning.

LSP put out a special notice Wednesday night that urged drivers to be extra careful and to avoid driving in the heavy storms unless it's absolutely necessary. Police also asked drivers to avoid driving in flooded streets, to not drive around barricades and to be aware of high winds.

Fog in New Orleans East continued Thursday morning, after being around for nearly 24 hours.
