NEW ORLEANS - November is National Adoption Month and local families formed through adoption are trying to help make more connections. Saturday’s Adoption Carousel Party at City Park was an event for children and parents to commemorate the time they became so-called "forever families."
Children and parents gathered to get a chance to ride City Park's carousel and train rides and enjoy a Saturday morning together.
The local chapter of Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans holds the party every year to raise more awareness about the possibility of adoption.
"We just loved being called mommy and daddy. It's the most wonderful feeling to be parents,” said one woman who attended with her husband and adopted daughter. “We have always wanted to be parents and it took us a while and we're just so grateful to have her."
Volunteers of America helped place 15 infants and foster care children with their new families last year. The agency works with newborn adoptions as well as with Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, a signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, which helps children in foster care find “forever” families.
