NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans housing activist and 2010 mayoral candidate James Perry has been fined $4,500 for failing to file campaign finance reports.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics fined Perry $2,500 for failure to file campaign reports during the February 2010 mayor’s race, and $2,000 for failure to file reports during the May 2010 race for state representative.

Perry missed the February 2011 deadline given by the Ethics Board and, according to the board, still hasn’t filed the reports.

In addition to the fines against him, Perry has been ordered to file both reports within 60 days or risk additional fines.

Perry did not attend an Aug. 3 hearing to defend himself on the ethics violations.

Despite not making the run-off in either race for office, Perry ran a respectable fifth place in the mayor’s race, capturing three percent of the citywide vote. Perry could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
