WASHINGTON PARISH – State Police suspect alcohol impairment caused a head-on collision that killed a Franklinton man and sent two others to the hospital on Sunday.
The accident happened just before 6 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 25 in Washington Parish.
State police say 35-year-old Charles Toon, of Foxworth, Ms., was traveling north on La. 25 when he crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a truck driven by 32-year-old Jonathan Bickham, of Franklinton.
Police say Bickham was wearing his seatbelt, but still received fatal injuries in the crash. Bickham was pronounced dead on the scene.
Toon and a passenger in his vehicle received only minor injuries.
State police believe alcohol impairment on the part of Toon caused the crash. Toxicology test are pending.
Toon is charged with DWI, vehicular negligent injury, and vehicular homicide. Toon will be booked into the Washington Parish Jail upon his release from the hospital.
State Police say the crash is still under investigation.
