NEW ORLEANS — Large swaths of the New Orleans metro remains in the dark Saturday in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.
According to Entergy, at 6 a.m.,115,000 homes are without power in New Orleans, with only a few spots -- parts of Broadmoor, Hollygrove, Mid-City and New Orleans East -- the lucky neighborhoods to have power. By 11 a.m., Entergy had nearly 113,000 without power. (See Entergy map)
In Jefferson Parish, at 6 a.m., 136,000 homes are without power by Saturday morning. By 11 a.m., the number was down to 123,000.
Overall, as of 7 a.m. Saturday, Entergy reported 407,552 power outages statewide, down from 414,000 Friday evening. By 11 a.m., the power outages were down to 377,000/
According to Cleco, flood waters are hindering efforts to return power to St. Tammany Parish -- 17,500 are still without power.
Not long after Isaac passed Thursday and the storm moved north, frustration began to mount Friday and patience grew thin as most of the metro area was still without power and temperatures began to rise.
Entergy has deployed crews from 24 states and has workers working 16 hour shifts to turn the power back on for the metro area.
Jefferson Parish President John Young lashed out at Entergy Friday. “The consistent message: 'Where is Entergy?" Young is calling for investigation of the power company, including fining Entergy for its post-Isaac performance.
"We understand the frustration of our customers and elected officials. We realize that many have been without power for a number of days," said Bill Mohl, Entergy CEO, in a prepared statement.
As of 11 a.m., the power outages for metro area parishes: Plaquemines 11,762, St. Bernard 8,857, St. John 17,477, Tangipahoa 12,759, Lafourche 19,459 and St. Charles 13,069.
