GRAND ISLE, La. -- Police investigated the stabbing death of a woman Saturday night in Grand Isle.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday near Cypress Lane and Hwy. 1, when Jefferson Parish deputies received a call from Grand Isle police about a stabbing.

According to police, a Grand Isle resident witnessed the stabbing on the beach and notified authorities. The female victim, 34-year-old Jennifer Dorzier, was stabbed multiple times. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Shortly after, Grand Isle police, assisted by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, arrested 28-year-old Randy Paul Marcel. Investigators say that he and the victim had been dating for about five years.

Police say witnesses watched the two having a verbal argument that led to the stabbing. The victim's 1-year-old son was on the beach during the time of the incident. The child will be placed in the care of the state.
