NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans officials reminded residents of parking instructions prior to the 2013 Greek Festival on Bayou St. John near the Lakefront.

The festival takes place Friday through Sunday at the Holy Trinity Cathedral complex at 1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd.

Parking enforcement personnel will look out for illegal parking in the residential neighborhoods surrounding the complex. Festival-goers are reminded to not block fire hydrants, driveways or sidewalks. Parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop sign is illegal. Drivers should be mindful of handicap zones.

Vehicles parking on the neutral ground are subject to a parking violation and seizure, officials said.

Greek Fest co-chair Gail Psilos said free, secure and lighted parking is available at the old JFK High School parking lot with a shuttle taking fest goers to the fest site.

The city says cars parked in driveways must be clear of sidewalks, otherwise they will be at risk of being ticketed or towed.

Motorists should park in the direction of travel on a one-way street and with the right wheel to the curb on a two-way street, officials said.

Parking on the west bank of Bayou St. John (Filmore Avenue to Robert E. Lee Boulevard) is prohibited and will be strictly enforced, according to New Orleans officials.

The Greek Festival one-mile race is Friday at 7 p.m. Runners will start at the intersection of Wisner Boulevard and Robert E. Lee Boulevard, proceed river-bound on Wisner, u-turn before Filmore Avenue and proceed back to the start/finish line at the intersection of Wisner and Robert E. Lee. The 5-K Race will begin at 7:20 p.m. starting at the intersection of Wisner and Robert E. Lee, proceed on Wisner, U-turn at Harrison Avenue, and return to the start/finish line at the intersection of Wisner and Robert E. Lee.

Due to the race, RTA service may be interrupted. Route changes are available at www.norta.com.
