NEW ORLEANS -- It was moments of chaos Wednesday morning outside Chase Bank on Carrollton Avenue after police say 45-year-old Hector Trochez was gunned down in the parking lot.
He was unloading money from a Loomis armored truck when three suspects opened fire on him and another guard taking the money and Trochez's life.
A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified knew Trochez for nearly a decade and said he learned of the tragedy while on the phone.
"She said, oh, that is him. I said oh God, not Hector. Kind of hard to believe."
The man said Hector was always known to have a smile on his face and would help anyone who needed it.
"He was always a happy and outgoing guy. Always ready to do a favor for anyone. Always had a good word. Was always happy and joking," the man said.
A few blocks away, just hours after the shooting, police found the getaway car, a gray Chevrolet Suburban SUV, behind Ashly Christia's house.
She was shocked to learn it was involved in the nearby robbery.
“It was like a big surprise, like, wow, what is going on here," she said.
Loomis issued a statement saying, "Loomis' number one concern is the safety of our employees, and making sure we're taking care of our teammates family."
Trochez's neighbor said he was saddened to learn it was his friend that was killed, but knows the dangers of the job.
"That how this world is now-a-days. It's nothing you can do about it except live with it."
Police say the suspects are in a gray Hyundai vehicle with a license plate of 14021654.
