SLIDELL, La. – A 24-year-old man led State Police on a wild car chase that included smashing in to two State Police vehicles, driving into oncoming traffic on Interstate-10 and having shots fired into his car by State Police.
The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. when police using a radar gun attempted to stop Peter L. Davis of New Orleans for speeding on I-10 in Slidell near exit 433.
According to a State Police spokesman, when the officers approached Davis’ vehicle, he sped off and the chase ensued, with Davis’ car going across the median and into oncoming traffic.
The spokesman said Davis’ car exited the I-10 eastbound exit while traveling westbound, nearly causing several accidents.
When Davis’ car went into the Lakeshore Villas subdivision, police attempted to block him in at a dead end, however Davis struck one of the cars and his car spun out of control. He was ordered to get out of his car but instead hit the gas and a trooper fired several shots at the vehicle.
Davis’ car hit another police vehicle and proceeded down Oak Harbor Blvd. back towards I-10 when State Police and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office laid down roadway spikes that deflated Davis’ two front tires.
The spokesman said Davis continued to drive on the wheels and tried to get back onto I-10 before being forced off the road, where he was arrested.
Davis was charged with speeding, driving in the wrong direction, reckless operation, flight from an officer, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and resisting arrest.
