NEW ORLEANS - Holy Cross will open a primary school for boys, serving grades from pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.
The move comes after changes by the Archdiocese of New Orleans to realign grade levels to a more uniform structure, ending eighth grade programs at elementary schools and shifting them instead to high schools.
The primary school will start in the 2015-16 school year, according to school officials, and will be located in the classroom building at Transfiguration of the Lord Church on the corner of Elysian Fields and Prentiss avenues. School officials are working on plans to finalize details regarding curriculum, registration and tuition.
Currently, Holy Cross School has a middle school -- grades 5-7 -- and high school -- grades 8-12.
