NEW ORLEANS -- Hubig’s Pies has received permission from the city to begin rebuilding the bakery that creates the iconic New Orleans pastries
The city planning commission granted the company a conditional use request Tuesday for a new bakery on Press Street between N. Rampart and Burgundy.
The site, which sits on the boundary of the Bywater and the Marigny, is currently a large vacant lot that belongs to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
Hubig's says they haven't signed a purchase agreement for the property yet because they were waiting for city approval.
Hubig’s factory in the Faubourg Marigny burned down last year. It had been in operation since 1921.
