METAIRIE, La. -- Louisiana State Police responded to a fatal accident involving a pedestrian, in Metairie, Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of a fatal crash on I-10 west at Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Harry Daigle III.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Kanequa Blackmon, 21, was driving a 1998 Saturn SL in the right lane of I-10 west at Veterans Blvd.

Daigle was a pedestrian and was crossing the right lane of I-10 west and was struck by the Saturn. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Impairment and speed are not considered factors of the crash and Blackmon was wearing her seatbelt.

Blackmon submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found in her system. She also submitted to a blood test and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab will conduct the analysis.

Toxicology results on Daigle are pending an autopsy.

The right lane of I-10 and the Veterans Boulevard on-ramp were closed westbound on I-10 but both have since been reopened and congestion has cleared completely in the area.
