NEW ORLEANS -- An Independence man has been convicted of killing of his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
Late Thursday night, a jury found 53-year-old Giles McGhee guilty of shooting and killing 36-year-old Temeka Muse and 40-year-old Karum Smith inside of their Hammond home back in 2012.
According to court documents, Muse tried to hite from McGhee in a closet after hearing gunshots and called police. Detectives later found her shot dead on the scene.
For the two counts of first-degree murder, McGhee faces a mandatory life sentence.
The jury deliberated for less than two hours after finding McGhee guilty on both counts.
