NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- The Irish Bayou exit on I-10, eastbound, is closed Thursday morning following an accident involving an 18-wheeler.

Officials say a tanker trunk overturned early Thursday morning, with the driver inside, just near the exit.

I-10 eastbound was closed completely but has since reopened and traffic in the area is flowing freely.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to the hospital for evaluation and does have minor injuries, but is expected to make a full recovery. Hospital personnel say he is more shaken up from the crash than anything else.

Authorities say the 18-wheeler is full of fuel so crews have remained on the scene for about 3 hours monitoring the situation.

Hazmat crews were called to make sure the truck was not leaking fuel and to make sure cars could safely pass the accident without any concern.

I-10 and Highway 11 are both open at this time but exit 254, the Irish Bayou exit, remains closed Thursday morning.

Crews will now wait until a tow truck crew can pull the 18--wheeler upright.
