MARRERO, La. -- The suspect wanted for the carjacking and murder of a U.S. Army Sergeant on New Year's Day in Marrero has been arrested, according to Sheriff Newell Normand.

Darwin Bethune, 24, of New Orleans turned himself in to authorities in New Orleans and was transported to the Jefferson Parish investigations bureau for questioning.

Normand said Bethune would be booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on one count of second-degree murder.

Joseph Anderson, a United States Army Sergeant, was shot and killed on January 1, in the 6100 block of Ray Street in Marrero, after dropping off his three children at his in-laws.
