METAIRIE, La. -- The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office welcomed their newest group of Young Marine graduates.

The Young Marines celebrated their completed training Monday night at the 22nd graduation ceremony. The program is a national youth program open to kids ages 8 to 17, and local officials say the graduation ceremonies are something they look forward to every year.

“This is probably one of my favorite things to do is to come out and watch these kids proud as a peacock, walking out on the stage talking about their accomplishments and learning about leadership,” says Sheriff Newell Normand.

The Young Marines program is for both boys and girls, and it promotes a healthy, drug and criminal gang-free lifestyle, according to program officials.
