NEW ORLEANS -- If you live in New Orleans East, it's been tough to go shopping ever since Hurricane Katrina, but the mayor says that's about to change and progress is being made.
Landrieu says a Walmart will be built there soon, the hospital should be finished by the end of the year and there have already been improvements made to Joe Brown Park.
But beyond that, he says his office is committed to bringing far more retail to New Orleans East, and they have a good idea of where the stores could set up shop.
“There are two potential sites,” Landrieu said. “One of them is six flags, and the other is the mall, and we continue to work on those every day. The market really drives the answer to that, and we have a number of developers who have been looking and thinking about that. We haven’t gotten there yet, but it’s not for lack of trying.”
In addition to the Walmart that will be built in New Orleans East, the mayor says a second one will be built in Gentilly.
