BATON ROUGE - As he prepares to anchor his final newscast on Channel 4 Friday night, Dennis Woltering was honored by state lawmakers, who honored him with a special resolution in the House of Representatives.

The resolution, by Rep. Austin Badon, D-New Orleans, honored Woltering for his 40-year career in broadcast journalism, and close to three decades as a reporter and anchor at WWL-TV.

"The gift Mr. Woltering displayed for both hard-edged reporting and compassionate storytelling will be sorely missed with his departure from the anchor desk at WWL-TV upon his retirement," wrote Badon in the resolution.

"His pursuit of integrity in newscasts leaves a standard of excellence for any who would sit in the news anchor chair after him."

Woltering's wife and daughter accompanied him to Baton Rouge for the honor on Wednesday afternoon.

His final WWL-TV newscast will be Friday at 10 p.m.
