NEW ORLEANS -- A prized Tulane football recruit has been arrested Tuesday on a simple rape charge.
Niguel Veal, who graduated early as an all-state wide receiver at West Jefferson High School and is currently enrolled as a freshman at the university, was booked Tuesday morning on a a simple rape charge in New Orleans, according to police. The alleged rape happened in the honors dorm.
He is presently being held on a $20,000 bond.
Court records show Veal turns 18 next month in May.
A Tulane spokesperson said Veal has been suspended from the team.
Tulane released the following statement:
"Niguel Q. 'Teddy' Veal, a Tulane University freshman from Harvey La., and a member of the Green Wave football team, has been suspended from the team. The suspension, effective immediately, was implemented after Veal was arrested and charged with simple rape. Federal law prohibits the university from disclosing any disciplinary action taken against a student regarding his or her enrollment in the university."
