NEW ORLEANS - After winning the quarterfinal and semifinal games on the road against higher-seeded opponents, Lusher defeated Northlake Christian 3-2 in the state championship Wednesday night, bringing home the school's first state team title.
Lusher, the number 5 seed in the playoffs won at No. 4 Episcopal and No. 1 seed St. Louis before topping the number 2 seed in Northlake Christian.
Lusher has only been a full high school with a senior class since 2008. Head coach Dan Perez told the New Orleans Advocate that he hopes the win will convince other top athletes to head Uptown to Lusher.
“What this means is that maybe now we will be able to hang on to players who may normally go somewhere else,” Lusher coach Dan Perez said. “We have the facilities. We don’t slouch and we know what we are doing.
Alex Fuselier's goal in the 79th minute proved to be the game clincher, while goalie Jared Neeb made several key saves.
