NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Police arrested a man for drug dealing and possession of a large amounts of drugs near the intersection of Elk Place and Canal Street Monday.
According to police, around 6:30 p.m., 29-year-old Eric Carter was seen by police engaging in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction, and as they attempted to speak with Carter, he immediately became defensive and a brief struggle ensued.
During the struggle Carter attempted to reach into his waistband, so one of the officers grabbed his arm for safety.
Carter was immediately taken into custody without any further incident.
During the arrest process officers discovered Carter was in possession of 155 bags of Marijuana, 43 pieces of (rock) Crack Cocaine, 21 foils of Heroin and $495 in cash.
In recent weeks Eighth District Commander Jeffrey Walls has increased Police visibility in the CBD in response to citizens’ concerns in the area.
Carter was booked into Central Lockup and charged with possession with the intent to distribute heroin, crack and marijuana, along with an outstanding warrant for drugs from Jefferson Parish. He also has previous drug and resisting arrests.
