NEW ORLEANS- The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a two vehicle car accident in New Orleans East that left one man dead Saturday morning.
Police say the accident happened just after 4 a.m. at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Crowder Boulevard.
Police say an unidentified man was driving at a high rate of speed heading westbound on Chef Hwy. when he ran into the back of a garbage truck that was stopped at the red light at the intersection. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say there was no one else in the vehicle.
The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.
The investigation into this crash in ongoing. Police say blood and alcohol tests are pending. The New Orleans Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
