NEW ORLEANS -- Detectives are investigating a shooting in Mid-City that sent one person to the hospital.

Shots rang out near the intersection of N. White and St. Philip just after 4 p.m.

Eyewitnesses tell WWL-TV that they heard several rounds of gunfire and that a 19-year-old man was hit multiple times.

One eyewitness who didn't want to be identified said he saw three black men flee the scene, and he's speaking out because he says it’s the community's responsibility.

“I gotta to live here. Only way to live here is to protect where I live, and the only way to do that is to put a stop to this foolishness."

"It's disturbing that my daughter and grandson almost got shot today. They were within feet. What’s even most upsetting is you know some mother is gonna get a call saying that their son didn’t get to make it today right before the holidays,” said neighbor Karen Kobichaux.

So far, the New Orleans Police Department says no arrests have been made.

There is no word on that victim’s condition.

Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
