NEW ORLEANS - A man who apparently caused a minor traffic accident was killed while crossing the interstate after checking on the person whose car he hit, according to the NOPD.
The incident occurred Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. on I-10 westbound near the Read Blvd. exit.
According to police, the 31-year-old victim was traveling in his pickup truck when for an unknown reason his pickup struck a Chevrolet Cavalier and spun out of control.
The driver of the Cavalier pulled his vehicle into the emergency lane on the right-hand side of the interstate and the driver of the pickup pulled his vehicle into the emergency lane on the left-hand side.
Police said the pickup driver crossed the interstate to check on the driver of the Cavalier and that when he started walking back to his pickup, he was hit by a car being driven by a 24-year-old woman. The woman's car was then hit by another as she tried to stop.
The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman suffered minor injuries.
