NEW ORLEANS - A man was fatally shot in the head in the 3800 block of Cambronne Street near Hollygrove early Wednesday, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Around 5:25 a.m., police found Denard Alexander, 31, in a stairwell of an apartment complex, according to the NOPD.

A large, distraught contingent of family members arrived at the scene around 6 a.m.

New Orleans police said the neighborhood is usually quiet.

“This part of town has been a very quiet part of Hollygrove for us. We really need anyone with any information to come forward and talk to us. It’s very difficult for us to solve these cases without help from the citizens,” said NOPD Commander Paul Noel.

Neighbors expressed similar sentiments.

“What I know about him, he’s a very nice person. I don’t know anything personal about him, but from what I know, very nice. He’ll help you out. You know, I have been back here this long, over five years, and there’s never been nothing like this, never. It’s so quiet until you have to leave out of here to hear some noise, serious,” said Cheryl Anderson, a neighbor.

The police investigation began to wrap up around 8 a.m.
