NEW ORLEANS -- A man has pleaded guilty in an Orleans Parish court to two rape and two kidnapping charges, according to the district attorney's office.

Darryl Puderer, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of forcible rapea nd two counts of second-degree kidnapping, said Christopher Bowman, a spokesman for the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office.

Bowman said Puderer committed the first rape in 2002, but the case remained unsolved for nearly a decade. The second rape occurred in October 2008, and the victim was able to give police Puderer's license plate.

Puderer was finally arrested in January 2009 for the second rape, and DNA linked him to the 2002 rape.

Bowman said there was a third rape in 2007 that would have been presented in court should Puderer had decided to proceed to trial.

“This defendant was a dangerous serial rapist against whom my prosecutors prepared a very strong case," said District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro. "My (assistant district attorneys) are effective advocates for this community in Criminal District Court.”

Judge Keva Landrum Johnson sentenced Puderer to a 20 years in prison.
