THIBODAUX, La. -- The man convicted of murdering a Thibodaux priest in 1992 has finally been sentenced for that killing.
Derrick Odomes beat Hunter Horgan to death inside his church office. Odomes was 14 at the time.
He received the highest maximum sentence under guidelines that have since been changed to allow juveniles to be tried as adults in some cases.
The seven-year sentence comes on top of a life sentence he is already serving.
That sentence was doled out under the state's habitual offender law for a string of unrelated felony convictions since Horgan's murder.
