GRETNA, La. – A man apparently trying to avenge the murder of his brother went to the home of an acquaintance and shot and killed him as he lay in his bed Thursday night, according to Gretna Police.

Chief Arthur Lawson said that the original killing occurred Wednesday afternoon when an argument over a bike ended up with a fistfight and a man identified as Mekale Thompson came back with an AK-47 and shot Delast Francois to death.

Lawson said that Thursday evening, a brother of Francois’ went to the home of an acquaintance of Thompson’s to apparently ask about his brother’s killing.

Lawson said the mother of the acquaintance let Francois’ brother into the home and that he went in to question the man in his bedroom. That conversation ended with the brother shooting the man in front of his mother.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died, while Francois’ brother remains at large.

Lawson said that in addition, Mekale Thompson is also at large.

He said the two killings appear to be part of a continuing feud between two families.
