NEW ORLEANS -- After allegedly making off with $31,000 in cash from a woman in Uptown New Orleans, a 29-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting a $13 bottle of vitamins at an Atlanta-area Walmart — with most of the stolen cash still stuffed into his pockets and shoes, police said.
The victim had hired MayFlower Moving Company to help her move from Houma to a home on Chestnut Street in the Lower Garden District on Sept. 13, NOPD Sixth District Commander Bob Bardy said at department’s weekly Comstat meeting on Friday morning. The woman had one of the movers help her “remove a personal box from the rear seat of her vehicle,” and inside that box was storage container with several credit cards and $31,000 in cash, Bardy said.
