NEW ORLEANS -- Memorial Day is a day when people take time out to remember America's fallen heroes, and there are a number of events taking place around the New Orleans Metro Area to mark the holiday.
Monday morning, Veterans are hosting a Memorial Day march in honor of the fallen soldiers of Jefferson Parish and Plaquemines Parish. It begins at the Manhattan Athletic Club in Harvey at 7 a.m., and will end at Hero Memorial Park in Belle Chasse.
The National World War II Museum is holding several events starting at 10:30 a.m., with a performance by the Marine Corps Quintet, followed by a Memorial Day ceremony, and then a moment of silence and bell ringing.
New Orleans City Park is holding a day of celebration with a big barbeque on the Goldring Woldenberg Great Lawn and special appearances by characters from Disney's Frozen at the Carousel Gardens. City Putt is also celebrating its one year anniversary Monday.
In Houma, a ceremony will take place at the Regional Military Museum on Barrow Street at 10 a.m., complete with a 21-gun salute, raising of the American flag, and Samuel Degeneres, a retired Brigadier General with the Air Force and the Louisiana National Guard will speak at the ceremony.
