NEW ORLEANS -- The Gert Town mother arrested in the killing of her two young children was indicted Thursday on two counts of first-degree murder.
Chelsea Thornton was taken into custody in October. She allegedly confessed to fatally shooting her 3-year-old son and then drowning her 4-year-old daughter.
Thornton has a history of mental illness and has been undergoing a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
Her arraignment has not yet been scheduled, but she is expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
