NEW ORLEANS - A four-alarm fire that started in the laundry room on the fourth floor caused the evacuation of the Hotel Intercontinental Saturday night.
According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the sprinkler system at the hotel and a quick response kept the fire contained to the area of the laundry room, however, the third and fourth floors of the hotel suffered significant fire damage.
Guests were shepherded across the street to the lobby of another hotel. No injuries were reported.
The InterContinental Hotel is located at 444 St. Charles St. The fire started just after 6 p.m. on Saturday. By 6:45p.m. NOFD struck a third alarm. Just after 7 p.m. a fourth alarm was struck.
Officials said the hotel was 85 percent occupied when the fire broke out. An estimated 600 guests all had to be relocated to four area hotels.
