Central City fire displaces three families

NEW ORLEANS -- Firefighters battled an early morning three-alarm blaze in Central City, near the intersection of First and Dannel streets. The fire left 12 people homeless.

According to fire officials, the fire started at a vacant home and then spread to homes on either side of the structure that collapsed.

Neighbors said a family living in one of the nearby homes where fire spread were able to get out safely, but their home was badly damaged.

Fire officials said three families, 12 people total, were displaced by the fire and Red Cross is now aiding the families. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
