NEW ORLEANS - Police are investigating the second murder of the day. This time in Central City, near the intersection of S. Liberty and Terpsichore streets.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. The victim was identified as a 21-year-old man, whose name has been released pending family notification.
"Sixth District officers were responding to a call of a male down and upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body," said NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot in a statement. "Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead."
Earlier, a man was shot and killed around 10:30 in Algiers.
The victim was shot multiple times inside an SUV near the intersection of Woodland and Tullis drives, near the Tall Timbers shopping center.
The victim, identified by family members as 20-year-old Mitchell Ricard III, was found by police in the parking lot of Wal-Mart on Behrman Highway. Richard was one of three people inside the vehicle.
Some distraught family members crossed police tape trying to get close to Richard and had to be moved away from the crime scene.
Police, so far, have no motive or suspects in the shooting.
