NEW ORLEANS -- For the second time in less than a month, the NOPD is investigating a fatal accident on a dark stretch of Claiborne Avenue.

It happened just before 8 p.m. in the 3700 block of the heavily traveled highway.

61-year-old Anthony Hickman was struck by a vehicle as he crossed the street. He died on the scene. The 17-year-old driver of the car wasn't injured, and no citations were issued.

People who live in the area continue to plead with the city to fix the lights in the area.

Last month, Eyewitness News confirmed that the stretch of S. Claiborne avenue where the first fatal accident happened, is being left in the dark because the city is working on a streetscape project that includes new LED lighting.
