NEW ORLEANS – Police are investigating two murders in different sections of the city, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The first murder happened shortly after midnight in the 100 block of Eliza Street in Algiers, according to spokeswoman Officer Hilal Williams.

“According to investigators, Fourth District officers responded to a call of a ‘male down’ and upon their arrival, located the victim lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body,” said Williams. “Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead.”

The NOPD identified the victim as 31-year-old Algeron Washington on Sunday.

In the second murder, police were called to the 3900 block of Annunciation Street Uptown around 1:30 p.m., according to police, where 42-year-old David Jackson was found lying in the street. He had been shot several times and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Anyone with information on either murder is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
