NEW ORLEANS -- Police are trying to determine if four armed robberies Uptown are all connected, since they all happened in the span of a few hours.
Included in the list of armed robberies was a carjacking that left a man shot in the chest near Camp and Delachaise streets at his home around 10:30 p.m. A confrontation ensued when two men approached the victim. The suspects opened fire, hit the victim and then took his SUV, a Cadillac Escalade.
The incident has unsettled neighbors in the area, where violent crime is uncommon.
Police could be seen combing the area, near Camp and Delachaise streets, looking for evidence. Neighbors said the police responded to the scene quickly after shots were fired.
The victim was taken to University Hospital and is listed in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
The crime was one of four Tuesday and Wednesday in the Uptown area, according to the Uptown Messenger.
According to police, a woman was approached by two armed men and had her purse snatched at First and St. Charles around the same time as the carjacking.
Another carjacking was reported in the 2300 block of Marengo Street also around the same time as the carjacking on Camp and Delchaise. A woman was held up by an armed man, between the ages of 18-21. She was ordered out of her car and the suspect fled in her car, according to police.
Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, another robbery was reported in the 3600 block of St. Charles Avenue.
According to the Uptown Messenger, two suspects were arrested in 9th Ward in connection with the Marengo robbery. One of the men were also identified by the purse snatching victim.
