Officer hit by SUV Uptown, police search for gold Trailblazer

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Early Wednesday morning, an NOPD officer was struck by a vehicle in the Garden District that fled the scene.

An NOPD officer was on detail in the Garden District around 1:00 Wednesday morning when he approached the driver of a vehicle on the corner of Polymnia and St. Charles Ave. The driver of the car fled the scene, striking the officer in the leg.

The officer fired his gun at the suspects, possibly hitting the vehicle.

Police say the car is a gold Trailblazer which may have one gunshot to the passengers side. The vehicle was occupied by two white males and one white female. It is unknown at this time if any of the passengers sustained any injuries.

The officer on duty was transported to the hospital where he sustained a knee injury. He will be treated and released.
