NEW ORLEANS -- A 10-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department was placed on emergency suspension while the Public Integrity Bureau investigates the officer for allegations of domestic abuse.
The Public Integrity Bureau began investigating the incident involving Officer Christopher Carter on Jan. 27, according to the NOPD. Police didn't divulge the details of the incident, only adding that Carter was placed on administrative reassignment on May 25 following the investigation.
The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office filed a bill of information on Carter Monday for domestic abuse battery involving strangulation and domestic abuse battery. NOPD placed Carter on emergency suspension without pay.
The PIB investigation is on-going, according to police. Carter was most recently assigned to the Special Operation Division Tactical Unit.
