NEW ORLEANS, La. – Three shootings over the weekend involved New Orleans Police Officers, and now the NOPD’s Public Integrity Bureau is taking a closer look at all of the incidents, one of which turned deadly Sunday.
It was a very busy weekend for NOPD Officers as after three officer involved shootings, one turned deadly.
Susan Hutson, the Independent Police Monitor was at the scene of Sunday’s deadly shooting in Hollygrove with her staff, to conduct an outside investigation into the shooting.
Hutson says she’ll be trying to answer a lot of the questions that people had at the scene, and he staff will also be looking into any history officers may have had with the man that was shot.
Hutson described the scene of the shooting as very tense and her staff spent hours interviewing witnesses Sunday. “It all starts with that autopsy, right? So that we can figure out the injuries. Perhaps at what angle the shots came from. There were a number of strike marks,” said Hutson.
As Hutson continues her investigation, the officer who fired the gun has been reassigned to desk duty pending the outcome.
Police say they did find a 45 caliber gun next to the suspect, so it seems he was armed at the time of the shooting.
