NAPOLEONVILLE, La. -- Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man who allegedly hit a four-year-old on a bicycle with a SUV while fleeing from authorities Sunday.

Larry Wiggins, 28, of Napoleonville, was arrested and booked with felony hit and run, unlicensed driver, DWI 2nd offense and first-degree vehicular negligent injury, according to Sheriff Mike Waguespack.

Around 5:30 p.m., a sergeant spotted a Chevrolet Tahoe speeding south on Highway 1.  After turning onto Cancienne Road, the child was run over by the SUV after the vehicle turned on Delaune Street, Waguespack said.

After hitting the child, four people inside the Tahoe jumped out and ran into a wooded area.  Three of the four inside the SUV, including the driver, Wiggins, were caught by deputies.

The child was air lifted to a Baton Rouge Hospital and is currently in stable condition with moderate to severe injuries.

Wiggins' bond has yet to be set by the court and he remains in jail.
