NEW ORLEANS-- In the shadow of the iconic Super Bowl XLVII numerals is a sampling of iconic New Orleans: from brass bands, to Mardi Gras Indians, to some of the city's world famous food.
The line at Mother's Restaurant downtown was down the block.
"We heard about Mother's-- and it must be good because it's a long line," said Baltimore Ravens fan Jeff Abarbanel, as he stood in line outside.
For the culinary inclined, New Orleans is nothing short of options.
"The restaurants are great," said San Francisco 49ers fan Pete Sills. "We've eaten at almost every Brennan's restaurant."
Part of the massive preparation leading up to the Super Bowl has to do with food. That's because it requires striking a delicate balance between making sure it's fresh and making sure there is enough.
"We're guessing at the number, the volume," said Juan Johnson of Papa Ninety Creole Soul Cafe. "Usually, Jazz Fest-- we're kind of used to it-- but here, we really don't know, so we're just preparing for a great day and that's all we can do."
Higher-than-normal volume is also apparent out at Lakefront Airport, where a constant stream of private jets are landing ahead of Sunday's big game.
"Well, we're going to be doing what we do in four days what we usually do in six weeks," said Addie Fanguy, general manager of Landmark Aviation.
Fanguy said they usually deal with 20 planes a day. By the end of this weekend, 500 planes will have landed there.
"It's great for the city of New Orleans, the people coming in," he said. "We take great care of them very well, so everybody is happy."
It is a happiness that is apparent on Super Bowl Boulevard, along the river.
"People here are really nice," said Mark Castanon of San Jose, CA, "and a good example of what kind of people are here in New Orleans."
It is a city now hoping years of preparation pay off this weekend.
