NEW ORLEANS - A police officer was injured after a gun went off during a struggle with a suspect, near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Werner Wednesday night.
An NOPD spokesman said around 11 pm Wednesday, police received a call of loitering and suspicious activity in the 7900 block of Chef Menteur. When officers arrived, they began to approach two men outside of the Cash and Carry, at which point 17-year-old Stahili Glover began to run, and tripped and fell in front of the store.
The spokesman said when the officer attempted to arrest Glover, he noticed a gun, and the officer and Glover struggled over the gun causing it to go off, striking Glover in the groin and giving the officer a graze wound to the ankle.
Both men were taken to the hospital, the officer will be treated and released, while Glover is listed in stable condition. Glover's injury is not considered life-threatening.
No one else, including the officer's partner was injured in the incident and the NOPD will continue its investigation into where the gun Glover had orginally came from.
